It's hotter than it's ever been in Dark Lake, at least to Lady's knowledge given her limited experience with the town. She's still being mentored by Ms. Poole, but in her free time she's spending more time around new friends. That means free time spent at the library. And that means time around Crispin.
Lady has had a crush on Crispin for a while now. Unfortunately for her, so has Otsuya. When Crispin finally makes a move, it inevitably complicates things between Lady and her best friend.
To make matters worse, there's a new hire at the library. Crispin has finally hired on an assistant, Chad. Lady can't stand him. She wishes he would hire someone else... Which is precisely what may happen when Chad's body is discovered on the deck of his parent's boat.
