What would you do if you could no longer trust your own sanity? It's Detective Alex Penfield's first day back to work after surviving a near-fatal shooting. A jogger has spotted a body on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at Fort Monroe, but the body has vanished by the time the police arrive. The jogger tells Penfield and his partner, Maria Torres, that she recognized the man as Joseph Talbot, a neighbor who lived inside the stone walls of the old Army fort. Penfield and Torres go to Talbot's house, only to discover he's placed video cameras in every room. Talbot's sister, Hannah, arrives from California to help search for her brother. She stays in Talbot's house and starts to see and hear terrifying things. Soon, Penfield's seeing these visions, too, but the video cameras in the house capture nothing. Are there logical reasons for these strange events and the disappearance of Joseph Talbot, or is Penfield losing his mind from the trauma of the recent shooting and other dark events in his past that have recently come to the surface?
