The Writer & the Witch

(2009)
A Novella by

The title doesn't lie: This is a story about a young writer and an old witch who meet on a lonely road that winds towards the New Capital.

Actually, they meet there twice. The first time, there's a curse involved. The second time--you'll have to read and find out.

It all adds up to about 4,000 words--perfect as a train read or an after-dinner fable. (Didn't you hear? Doctors recommend after-dinner fables.)

== Praise for previous work ==

Here's what some Amazon reviewers had to say about my previous story, Mr. Penumbra's Twenty-Four-Hour Book Store:

"In my book, 5 stars are reserved for works that you carry around in your mind even when you've finished reading them. This short story qualifies."

"Tightly wound mystery/fantasy plot. Wonderful characters given just enough flesh to leave your imagination room to play. An unbroken string of sentences that charm. And it's drink-snortingly funny."

"...I was really impressed by the cover art (in the Kindle book itself) and the one drawing featured in the text. Basic stuff, yes, but very stylish and well-done. Pictures sometimes look awful on the Kindle in 'big name' books, so it was nice to see such a polished presentation here."

"I enjoyed Robin Sloan's short story immensely. This story was as well-written as one could hope for. It pulled me right in until I finished it. I certainly hope Sloan will be writing more for us soon!"

Robin Sloan grew up in Michigan and now splits his time between San Francisco and the internet.
