What do an ageing variety performer, an absent-minded dog lover, a retired French spy and a luckless council worker have to do with a cup of tea, monsters, Christmas and the end of the world?
Very little, actually.
And yet, somehow, they all find their way into these entertaining, unpredictable, and occasionally peculiar tales.
The Beggar’s Ransom and Other Stories is a collection of short stories where the ordinary can take a surprising turn, the absurd can sit comfortably beside the sinister, and you should never be too sure where the next few pages will take you.
From the amusing to the intriguing, the thoughtful to the downright unexpected. Stories that may leave you looking at the world just a little differently. Some are whimsical. Some are thought-provoking. A few are decidedly strange.
But they all have one simple aim: to entertain.
Perfect to dip into whenever you have a few minutes to spare — on the train, during a work break, or while waiting for an appointment. Long enough to draw you in, short enough to finish before someone calls your name.
Pick a story. Settle back.
And prepare for the unexpected.
