Erith is Earth's parallel world in the next plane of existence where sorcery and witchcraft are enforced, piracy is a way of life, and Erith's geography is not quite the same as Earth's.
Sularin Tam may be the pirate king of Dragolan, and notorious as the scourge of Erith, but all of his life, he has been a victim of other nation's greed and the long term plans of the supreme sorceress of Dragolan, Gasthalma.
Talk about your cougar! Gasthalma is 700 years old and when she uses witchcraft to seduce Tam, he is only 19, because she feels that it is time for her successor to be born. Unfortunately, Inyue is just an ordinary girl and in her outrage, the sorceress casts a very unfortunate spell over Sularin that he has to live with for the next 18 or 20 years.
In the meantime, bored, Gasthalma is fooling around with magic spells and one goes awry. She intends to bring hordes of slaves to do her bidding from another world, but instead, snips, twice married, twice divorced, Katherine Hanson Hapgood Ford and her small son, Rolphie, and half of Kay's beach house from the shores of Puget Sound, Olympia, Washington, planet Earth to its comparable space in Westland, planet Erith. Kay is pondering what to do when accosted by Tyen Wick, Prince of Westland, and his soldiers and then is overwhelmed by Sularin's pirates, who kidnap the Prince and Rolphie, but miss Kay. Determined to rescue her son, Kay uses parlor games and reconstructed nursery rhymes as spells to make her way across Erith in search of her son, and in the meantime meets the scourge Sularin Tam, and together the two join forces.
