I am dead, ‘damned,’ and a reclamations specialist in the bustling afterlife. A servant of the underworld, if you will, of no fault of my own other than the tragedy of being brutally murdered. Partnered with Jugong, an enormous Gigung male of the Giwung hellbat species, I am spending my ‘damned’ existence working in the service sector in the field work for the Inspection and Intelligence Office. While it’s hardly glamorous, it at least feels as if we are fulfilling a vital role in the underworld until a simple grab and bag goes terribly wrong, transporting us far beyond the boundaries of the ‘civilized zone’ with the underworld and the kingdom of the dead.
No mere wraith could possibly be worth this hassle of being plunged into the depths of the Lamentari Forest, but our orders are to bring him in. If the forest itself wasn’t bad enough, being trapped in a mysterious temple with our target suddenly takes a turn far beyond my job description. Especially when the temple, and the wraith we’ve been assigned to bring in, holds forbidden secrets that were never meant to be uncovered. With shades of sacrificed ghosts haunting the temple, and a powerful allure teasing me, it seems unlikely that I will find both my destiny and love within its chambers and bloody corridors.
This is a multi-point of view first person story, expanded from the original short story in Monsters in Love: Lost in the Underworld anthology.
Genre: Romantic Suspense
