When Kelly Wilson is jilted, she accepts an assignment on a horse-breeding farm to care for a girl suffering from rheumatic fever. She meets Mel, the girl's uncle, a brooding and unhappy man, and Brad Riley, a blue-eyed and fun loving veterinarian. Mel was driving the car in which his niece's mother and father were killed. He has ever-present back pain, a constant reminder of the accident. It takes a barn fire to bring Kelly closer to an understanding of everyone at Morgan Acres, and of her own hopes for the future.
