Sabra had her life planned out, until everything fell apart.
Bartholomew wouldn’t know a plan if it bit him.
A supply train of freight and family wagons along the southwest, an ornery camel, and a wild journey throw Sabra and Bart together.

Sabra Jenkins had a sweet life planned. She would marry Edward Huntington and raise fine racehorses and a half-dozen children. She was twenty and just about to see her dreams realized when Papa came home and declared the Jenkins tribe was moving to California to get away from the war that was brewing between the northern and southern states. She wasn't worried. Edward would save her by marrying her.

Bartholomew, Bart, Johnson wants no part of the war everyone is geared up to fight. He joined the Samuel Ward wagon train headed on the southern route to California. Before he left San Antonio, he happened upon a man with some camels. The last thing Bart wanted was a camel, but he found himself walking away with an ornery one-humped beauty named Matilda.

And then he met Sabra.
