This year's chili cook-off is bringing the heat...
Performing in these small towns always draws the blue-collar boys to my tent. Ranchers. Lumberjacks. Cowboys with big hats and big mouths. They want to see the acrobat from the flyers, defying death in my skin-tight unitard as they wolf whistle and call out their best country pick-up lines.
I've always laughed them off, but when my boss tells me that I'm volunteering to be a judge for the Sweetheart County Fair's chili cookoff, I'm sure I'll have to sit next to some big country boy who'd rather taste me than the chili.
But my fellow judge has me swooning on sight. Last year's cookoff winner, a foreman with a flair for spice, is built like a bull with a smile that pierces me silly.
He wants to show me what a fine chili is all about—I'm not sure I can handle the heat...
