NOTE from the Department of National Records Preservation (DNRP) (By a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act]Request) filed on September 22, 2040: This copy of the document known as ‘Black Friday, The End’ is the tenth notebook written by Israel Tabs, also known as the Elder. It is released only for historical purposes and is not to be released to any foreign entity.
The tenth notebook covers the details of the truce agreement between the President and Sotolongo, whereas Mexico became a dead zone and a dead man's zone between the two nations. Sotolongo’s forces lost control of four ‘dirty bombs’ in backpacks as the people chosen to carry them across the border tossed them and ran when they came under attack by a cartel. We thought there were ten ‘dirty’ backpacks, we were wrong. Two exploded in Loren’s face, and four were intercepted by the Cartels.
The Cartels didn’t know the ‘dirty’ backpacks were on timers. When the C4 timers in the backpacks exploded, they spread their radioactive poison across central Mexico. An American AWACS noticed the Argentine forces positioning Chinese-made rockets in northern Mexico. The American President ordered a preventive strike with nine ground-burst 300 Kt gravity bombs. The radiation from the ground burst resulted in turning a wide swath of Mexico into a dead zone. Combined with the backpack bombs, the area between Mexico City (which had been destroyed by a Russian sub-launched missile) and the border was turned into a dead zone.
It was agreed that neither country would have members of their armed forces enter Mexico. It would be a buffer zone between the two nuclear-armed neighbors who’d come to hate each other. They promised each other that if their militaries crossed into Mexico, the nukes would fly. The President had the means to deliver hundreds of nukes to Sotolongo’s cities, while Sotolongo had to rely on fifty-year-old planes that would be easy targets for the American air defense system established along the border. The Americans patrolled the border with F-15s and F-14s that had been rebuilt at the ‘Bone Yard.’
The truce held, and Sotolongo’s successor, Jose Aguilar, agreed to honor the terms of the truce. Book ten was the last notebook Israel Tabs wrote, and he never completed it before his death. He was a changed man after the loss of Loren. He turned into a loner and, outside of his teaching, didn’t appear very often in public.
He even refused to take the President’s call. The two ‘bricks’ of C-4 on the train exploded in Loren’s face. The explosion tore Loren apart. There wasn’t enough of her body to bury, so her empty casket was buried across from Linda’s site. Israel told Gunny he wanted to be buried next to Loren, and it was going to happen sooner rather than later.
Parts of this notebook were written by Chad and Gunny. You can also look up the Army’s contact report, which goes into detail about what they saw when they entered the community and what they learned from their meeting with Chad.
Genre: Thriller
