The Far Journey

(2010)
A novel by

Many years ago, a lone mouse fled as rats burned her village. Wounded and footsore, she left her infant son in the care of the kind mice of Fleur Gardens. Then she vanished into the night. Now her son Horace has grown to mousehood, and he has a talent beyond any that Fleur Gardens has ever seen. Every night, this talent drives him and his friend Max to the second floor of the humans' office building. But the human world is forbidden to all the mice of Fleur Gardens. And each time Horace crosses the carefully-patrolled borders, he risks exposing his colony to the humans. When one fateful escapade puts Fleur Gardens in danger, Horace must set aside his own dream to defend his friends.
