In fulfilment of the pledge by president Diaz Ordaz to quell students unrest prior to the Olympic Games in 1968, troops of the Mexican army fired on student protesters in the capital, killing 49 and wounding 500. 1,500 were jailed. Calling All Heroes is the prize-wining novel about what happens after a debacle.
