Molly Muldoon was a very beautiful young girl all of seventeen years old. That long blonde hair and green eyes would turn any head. She lived with her folks on a small farm a few miles south, southeast of Fort Sumner, New Mexico. The Pecos River ran the full length of the southwest boundary of that farm. Every Sunday the family would get in the wagon and drive those few miles into town to church. Eddy Blasingame would stand across the street from the church and wave at Molly when her folks wasn’t looking. This day Molly walked from church first and there he stood. “Molly, you know all thru school you was my gal. Yer pa just don’t like me.” “Next year I’ll be old enough to leave home.” “No, tonight.” “What?” “Just you pack a small bag. I have two horses and will pick you up behind y’all’s barn after yore folks go to bed. We’ll ride over to Santa Rosa and be married.” “Really, or are you just saying that?” “My word, just you be behind that barn.”
