After Armageddon, one rugged survivor blazes down the treacherous highways of a ravaged America. Bonner deals with tyrants who once were his friends and the original outriders but who have divided North America into 4 Tyranny ruled large states. He and his new group of outriders operate out of Free Chicago. As he leads the outriders through many deadly, bloody encounters, works with some of the friendlier gangs in the Free areas, and travels down the dangerous highways Bonner is always seeking to understand the past and trying to make some kind of sense out of what the previous world was like. But, more importantly, he wonders how the war could have occurred. Meanwhile, he lives by the mottos live free or die and kill or be killed. And, after Leatherman formed the first slave tyranny state and killed Bonner's precious Dara, Bonner always thinks of revenge against Leatherman.
