Landmark collection of pieces published for the first time in book form. Contains two stories, "The Afterlife" and "Bech in Czech" and three sonnets, "Oxford, Thirty Years After"; "Somewhere Else" and "Sonnet to Man-Made Grandeur". The fruit, according to the author's brief Foreword, of a trip to Europe in 1986, they have all been subsequently published in separate collections.
