Small Town Librarian Versus Dark Elves and the Erl King in the backwoods of East Tennessee... Mercyville might seem like a typical small town in East Tennessee, but when librarian and aspiring author Katie MacLeod is assigned to set up a display about the library's history, she discovers a hidden doorway into the realm of the faery beneath the old house known as The T. L. MacKenzie Memorial Library. And when Katie accidentally opens the dark gate and sets free a host of Scottish fae known as the Sluagh, she suddenly finds herself in the middle of an ancient faery war. For Katie has something that the Erl King desires--a key to controlling the Host of Light--and he will stop at nothing to seize it from her. But as faery mischief grows wild in Mercyville, Katie can't seem to get anyone to believe her. Even her boyfriend Deputy Dan Gilly is hard pressed to accept that the Sluagh are causing all the problems in Mercyville. Katie finds her ally in the town's rather eccentric bum known as Crazy Tom, a man with a penchant for playing pennywhistles and quoting ballads from Child's. But Tom may also be more than he seems, and if he and Katie can't find a way to lock the dark gate a stop the Erl King, then Midsummer's Eve is going to be a faery Armageddon for Mercyville.
