Waiting Up

(2026)
(The fourth book in the Blackthorn Pack series)
A novel by

In the autumn of 2012, two matriarchs of two wolf packs registered each other at the same compromise: each had perhaps fourteen years before her hands would no longer conduct the architecture of her pack. Each had a child she would not, by her own accounting, live to design a marriage for. Each had registered the other’s child.
They designed together.
Eve Sterling, twenty-seven, records archivist at Boise State University, has spent four years in an apartment with a second armchair four feet east of her own. She has not, by her own accounting, named what the second armchair is for. She does not remember that she has been waiting.
Dorian Blackthorn, twenty-nine, is the Blackthorn family’s intelligence specialist. He has been told, since he was seventeen, that the Sterling matriarch designed his marriage at the architecture of his grandmother’s compromise. He has spent fourteen years and four months conducting the careful operational architecture of not being the party who would arrive at zero feet.
He arrives at five forty-three on the morning of April 17, 2026.
She is the one who decides.
And before her mother can finish what she designed, Eve has to register what her own decision is.
