A delivery man making an early morning drop off makes a terrible discovery in a Perth pub. Mick Doyle, the hotel owner, has been brutally beaten to death, his injuries leaving him almost beyond recognition.
There is no sign of a break-in and the till has not been touched. Doyle was friendly, well-liked and had no enemies. The murder seems inexplicable.
But Detective Tony Packer and his team find things that do not add up. Doyle was keeping secret records and filtering illegal payments through his bank account.
