Tarjei Vesaas was born in Norway, where he spent most of his life as one of the country's finest, most prolific, and best-loved twentieth-century authors. His poetry is explicit in its themes of isolation, anxiety, and responsibility, yet it is also suffused with a ruggedly benign landscape, as it explores the frailty of human affections and the warmth of heart and home.
