Tania Forbes, who has just become a soloist with the Ballet Victoire Company, meets violinist Robert Grainge when he is employed to play in the forthcoming production of Cinderella. She begins to join Robert every day in the canteen for lunch. When Daryl Ashton, the principal male dancer with the company, encourages Tania to practise with him in the rehearsal rooms, Tania becomes infatuated with him, and Robert finds that she no longer has time for him.
