Hazel's stay in the little Yorkshire village brought about the change she needed; she had no family now and her nursing career was finished. Ellie, with her good cooking, soon restored her to health. Hazel was surprised that Ellie thought so much of Albert as he was the most aloof, abrupt man she had ever met. Richard was just the opposite and made the ideal companion. Through Dr. Talbot, Hazel found the perfect job, but more importantly she found someone to care for her.
