The diamond rich country of Balathia, on the equatorial west coast of Africa, a country under the protection of Great Britain, was under attack although from whom it was not known. Its Colonial Officer passes a request to the Government in London for help in preventing further attacks which is then passed to Admiral Lord Maltravers at the Admiralty. He sends for Giles Courtenay, gives him his instructions, which are to find out who is behind the mysterious attacks and to stop them, Courtenay has a small squadron for the mission, which squadron includes the Hon. Edward Courtenay in the brig Justify. It does not take Courtenay long to ascertain that Mercenaries are behind the attacks, but who are they working for? Giles Courtenay, as ever, is in the thick of the action, risking his own life to find the answers to the questions he needs to comply with his orders.
