An anthology of stories edited by

Children's Literature
A collection of nine short stories from past Newbery Medal-winning authors are included in this anthology series. This particular book, one of eleven in "The Newbery Authors Collection," covers famous children's authors such as Lois Lenski, Madeleine L'Engle and Richard Peck, who won the Newbery Medal in 2001. The stories cover a range of fictional subjects from the lifestyles of the Sioux Indians to prairie school life. The selections give further insight into the author's style and subject matter preference. Included at the end of the book are brief biographies of the authors, which also list their award winning book and their other well-known works. Additionally, there is a list of all the past Newbery Award Winners and Honor Books. This collection would be useful for students engaged in Newbery Award Author studies and for story times. 2001, Gareth Stevens, $22.60. Ages 10 to 14. Reviewer: Melissa A. Caudill
