The Overpowered Village Cook 2
(2026)(The second book in the Copper Ladle series)
A novel by Clay Whitlock
[Provisioner]. The most useful class in a snowbound village.
Odric Brannon spent nine years cooking for a mercenary company. These days he feeds Bramblecote from a village cookshop, with a household that has claimed most of his kitchen and a grey goose that claims the rest. His supposedly useless class makes good food into lasting magic. Start with Book 1: The Overpowered Village Cook.
The stores are full, the oven works, and Odric intends to enjoy hot breakfasts in his own kitchen. Sitting down, preferably.
Then eleven hungry travellers arrive with a battered wagon. The mountain pass has closed early. There are ten weeks to the thaw, and the food on the shelves has to last longer than anyone planned.
He puts supper on before asking what they can contribute.
[Nourished. Permanent.]
A fresh dish can ease an old ache for good. Every new person he feeds widens the reserve that lets him stretch a pot or keep a fire warm through the night. There is still no ceiling. There is also no magic that fills an empty grain sack.
So Halda wants a proper malting floor for her three kettles, and Odric has a smokehouse to build beside it. Soon there will be toasted grain to taste and new winter dishes to try. Wendel already has opinions about the seasoning. Betts intends to check his work.
Among the newcomers is a cooper who starts offering repairs before he has warmed up. Perrine would like everybody to remember that resting counts as useful work. And Dumpling has found a smoking rack in the middle of her usual route through the yard.
She expects it moved.
Nesrin is trading through the winter from her little store off the square. Her wagon still needs repairing. Lately, Odric has been finding reasons to finish his work when she finishes hers.
Beyond the kitchen, ice is slowing the mill and spring’s seed must stay out of the cooking pots. Odric means to keep every place at his table fed until the road opens again. He would quite like his own supper hot, too.
Perfect for fans of Legends & Lattes, Beware of Chicken, The Wandering Inn, and Arcane Chef.
