"Elliot Katse," called Adam Rowan, "I reject you as my queen and mate."

Elliot Katse has lived her entire life in a world of rejection. As a puma shifter, she was devastated when she didn't shift at eight like all her classmates. She thought she was a late bloomer. Yet years passed by, and still, nothing. By the time Elliot was eighteen, she'd given up on ever meeting her puma. However, pain wasn't done with her yet. Soon after she turned twenty-one, she met her mate, who rejected her on the spot.
Who would want a mate who can't shift? Not Adam Rowan, the Crown Prince of the Pumas in Columbus, Ohio, that's for sure.

DeSean Vik is twenty-five and starting over in a new city. With a bachelor's degree under his belt, he's ready to return to school for his master's program in Columbus.

A night on the town ends with Elliot in Vik's bed before she disappears, not even leaving behind her number. Only she reappears before him a day later as a Program Coordinator for his department.

Elliot wants to forget the night she spent with a man who is thirteen years younger than her, but their age gap isn't the problem. Elliot hasn't told Vik the most important thing about herself. Not that she can anyway. She's been rejected before, but this might break her. Vik knows Elliot is hiding something. Whatever it is, it’s only a matter of time before Vik finds out.

Elliot wants space, but Vik is playing for keeps. Elliot was his first, and he has no plans to let her go. Their connection is forbidden, but Vik’s willing to risk it all to have her.
