By the end of the 16th century spice wars have broken out between western civilisations, among the Moluccas islands for the best spices. The story also includes the first British expedition to the East Indies, where three ships were sent out. Journal extracts are included from a lieutenant aboard one of the ships. They provide a detailed insight into the hazards of such a voyage, and unedited scripts are included.
