The first three thrillers in the Cal Harrison series from British writer JD Wood.

Cal Harrison was formerly a Sergeant in the SRR (Special Reconnaissance Regiment), a UK Special Forces unit with operational experience in Afghanistan and certain parts of Africa that he can't tell you about. Separated from his wife Amanda with a school-age daughter, he left the army to work as a freelance security consultant for a series of multinationals, and lives in a caravan in the backyard of his former commanding officer, Frank Ryan, on the edge of a river in Suffolk.

They’re still on the Army Reserve list, alongside the rest of the squad, and occasionally they get called up to lend a hand. In addition to Frank and Cal, there is Sam Le Roux, a Glaswegian girl who does something in cyber security in Amsterdam; Rob Lord, who started up a taxi company in Dorset; Maddy the medic, who went on to work for Médecins Sans Frontières; and Des, who lives in a windmill in Wales. No one is quite sure what Des does.

In book one of the series, The Girl on the Boat, we are introduced to Cal and Frank, with brief cameos from Sam and Rob. In book two, Hunted, we meet Des.

And then there is Sofie, a wannabe investigative journalist with a tragic past. She gets to know Cal in book one, and meets up again with him in book 3, The Cardinal’s Sin. By the end of it, they’ve agreed to work together.

For readers who enjoy gritty, fast-paced thrillers with a twist, set in international locations. Including those by Lee Child, David Baldacci, Karin Slaughter, Michael Connelly, James Patterson, Mark Dawson, and John Grisham.
