Sophie Lane isn’t being asked to leave her new television series.
Someone is simply making sure she understands what could happen if she stays.
The twenty-five-year-old actress arrives at One More Chair hidden beneath a baseball cap, tinted glasses, and an oversized coat. Kit Calder recognizes her immediately—and realizes just as quickly that Sophie isn’t avoiding paparazzi.
She’s scared.
Someone knows Sophie has been asking questions about a former employee connected to her famous costar. Soon there are warnings no one wants to call threats, security people who know where she goes, and private information that was never supposed to become leverage.
The message is becoming impossible to miss: leave quietly, and the problem goes away.
Kit has no intention of deciding what Sophie should do. Her job is harder than that.
Find out who is applying the pressure, separate what can be proved from what everyone assumes, and make sure Sophie gets to choose what happens to her own career.
THE BEAUTIFUL LIAR is a sharp, contemporary New York mystery about celebrity, reputation, intimidation, and the dangerous convenience of letting powerful people remain carefully uninformed.
