The Yokai Who Remembered Her Mother
(2026)(The eighth book in the Mina Kagura Files series)
A novel by Kira Wren
A supernatural debt collector is hunting New York’s yokai—and every demand carries the unmistakable trace of Mina Kagura’s dead mother.
Mina was supposed to be filming fashion content in Central Park. Instead, a wildly dramatic fairy named Unc comes screaming across the grass with an emergency: an old yokai has received a demand to repay a debt to Kagura. She remembers Aiko Kagura. Aiko saved her life.
And she isn’t the only one.
More demands are surfacing. The recipients remember Mina’s mother as a protector, investigator, and frighteningly capable supernatural force. None of them remember her asking to be repaid. But the letters carry something real enough to mark their targets—and send vicious supernatural collectors after anyone who refuses.
With Kyubi, her talkative and dramatically weakened nine-tailed fox, at her side, Mina starts separating gratitude from obligation, memory from evidence, and her mother’s real legacy from whatever someone has turned it into.
The deeper she digs, the stranger the discovery becomes: the hidden life Aiko built may look disturbingly familiar to the one Mina chose for herself.
A paranormal mystery filled with supernatural New York, sharp investigation, chaotic companionship, eerie danger, and unexpected warmth.
