Elizabeth Bennet has a Mr Collins problem. Mr Darcy has a Caroline Bingley problem.
When Elizabeth runs into Darcy on Oakham Mount while attempting to escape an unwanted proposal, he comes up with a solution that could save them both: a convenient courtship. If Mr Collins believes Elizabeth is already spoken for, he might finally turn his attentions elsewhere. And if Caroline Bingley thinks Darcy's heart is engaged, perhaps she will stop pursuing him quite so enthusiastically.
The plan is simple. Darcy will call at Longbourn, Elizabeth will pretend to enjoy his company and, after a few weeks, they will discover they do not suit and quietly part ways. Neither of them expects pretending to be interested in the other to become quite so enjoyable.
Soon Elizabeth is finding excuses to hold Mr Darcy's hand, while Darcy is discovering that making Elizabeth Bennet fall in love with him may not be the problem. The problem is what happens when he realises he has fallen first.
Mr Darcy's Convenient Courtship is a funny, low-angst Pride and Prejudice variation novella with fake dating, plenty of Lizzy and Darcy banter and a closed-door happily ever after.
This short read is designed to be read in roughly 60-90 minutes, depending on your reading speed.
