Land of Sunlit Ice is the best gathering of North Dakota Poet Laureate Larry Woiwode poems, recent and past, to appear in a single collection. This chapbook is available May 15, 2016, in a letterpress, hand-bound edition that matches the precision and craft of the poems.
This numbered, limited edition chapbook exemplifies the beauty and art of hand-letterpress printing. Land of Sunlit Ice is printed on a Chandler & Price platen press and a Brandtjen & Kluge press, both from the 1920s, and then sewn with two antique wire stitchers.
The covers are individually stenciled, and the interior text is printed on raised-type magnesium mounted on wood blocks.
This limited edition (about 200 copies) is hand-crafted by printer apprentices at North Dakota State University Press. The apprentices are: Raechel Heuer, Ken Smith, Maggie Krull, Angela Beaton, Amanda Biles, Sydney Olstad, and Ana Rusness-Petersen, under the direction of editor in chief Suzzanne Kelley.
The letterpress print production was under the direction of Allan Burke and took place at The Hunter Times, located at Bonanzaville, West Fargo, ND, and The Braddock News Letterpress Museum, Braddock, ND.
