Desmond has spent his whole life expecting people to ask him to leave.

He has an apartment, a job, a best friend, and people who have slowly become important to him. The Chang Pack has welcomed him, and for the first time, he's beginning to wonder if this could become something more than somewhere he happens to live. Maybe it could become home.

Most of all, he's found his mate—Rafe, one of the pack's security wolves who works the front door of their building. Desmond isn't ready to risk his heart just yet. Not until he knows whether he can really stay.

Rafe knows exactly what he wants, but he also knows better than to rush Desmond. If his mate needs time to decide what he wants from their bond, Rafe is willing to wait. He'll be there while Desmond learns what it means to belong—not because fate says he should, but because Desmond chooses it, and him, for himself. He knows Desmond needs time to understand that he will choose him again and again and that the pack truly do ee him as family.

But someone is hunting supernatural beings in New York and when a young husky shifter is targeted and another member of the pack disappears, the danger gets too close to ignore. As the pack works to protect their own, Desmond finds himself facing something just as frightening as the people hunting them: the possibility that he might finally have a real family, a mate who will always choose him, and a place that truly is home. Desmond realizes he has to learn to trust what his heart has been trying to tell him all along.

Home isn't just the place where people make room for you. It's the place where you finally choose to stay—and the person who makes you want to.
