There appears to be a mystery surrounding Peter Carmichael, the brilliant young neuro-surgeon at St Mildred's Hospital. He seems to have no close friends and his private life is all but unknown to his colleagues at the hospital. When Marie Sewell, the staff nurse from the operating theatres, comes into his life, and their acquaintanceship deepens, she is compelled to reveal her love for him. In return, he has to reveal to the nurse he loves the secret that has haunted him for years.
