The Parrish family manage to put up a good facade for the outside world, but inside their front door there's plenty of tension going on caused by teenager Julia's obsessive and difficult father. Julia wishes her family could be like their new neighbours, the talented, extrovert, easygoing Croxleys, and escapes to the Croxley house whenever she can.
