September 1918. Although the world is at war, Delia Markham is adjusting to her job as a typewriting teacher at the Glennon Normal School in the fall term of 1918. Her new life revolves around teaching future teachers. It isn't an easy transition from her former assignment as Yeoman (F) in the U. S. Naval Reserve.
Delia is settling into her new apartment on campus and her new life in Glennon. Though the world is at war, life moves forward. Her cousin, Hazel, is juggling changes in her life faced by women everywhere. Men across the country are being called to action leaving those at home to take up the slack of producing the necessary resources to power the fighting. Women everywhere are moving into jobs traditionally held by men and adjusting to new situations.
All the while, Delia is acutely aware of the responsibilities weighing on her shoulders. The admiral, her former boss in the Navy, expects her to uncover the truth about a potential traitor. The outcome of her investigation holds a life in the balance. But when a death may touch the normal school, Delia is tasked with helping to get at the truth.
While Wesley and Otis work on finding an enemy of their own, Delia is busy helping to uncover a killer. When they least expect it, a new adversary makes a first appearance in Glennon. This one may prove more powerful than a Great War.
