A broker killed at his desk starts the fireworks. The NY Police Department swings into action. Each step they take is the step they would take in real life, using all their machinery on the case, all the services of a force larger then the Marine Corps. A search for a man with a wax face; a raid on radical headquarters; a hilarious conference of Squad heads; a deal on Wall Street that has overtones of the boom days - these are some of the ingredients. Sergeant Dickson, assigned to the case, is no parlor sleuth with impossible virtues, but a very human "dick" who manages to bring his case to a successful and exciting denouement.
