In this sequel to Mata Hari: Paradise Lost, M’greet seeks to secure her marriage to Rudolph. While her previous scandals are still an encumbrance, through the confines of matrimony M’greet has an opportunity to sever her ties with the past and thus expedite her plans for the future. While she is convinced that marriage to Rudolph would be an escape from poverty and loneliness, M’greet discovers that her miseries are only too content to welcome company, and her trials are increased tenfold.

While her eye lingers on the East Indies, M’greet must contend with her former traumas in an austere and unforgiving society that has turned a blind eye to its own shocking underworld. An underworld that has sunk its talons deep into Rudolph, forcing M’greet to confront a dark truth. Although M’greet is infatuated with Rudolph, she discovers that he has his own motivations for marriage, and his ambitions are in competition with M’greet’s.

Still, hope is conjured through hardships as gold is tested and refined through fire, and M’greet is no exception to the flame.
