Of Light & Shadow
(2026)The Forest Queen
(The second book in the Six Realms Fantasy series)
A novel by Tessa Wylde
A queen hungry for power. A king who rules in name only and a princess who is an embarrassment.
The realm of Khilmooragh is considered the life-blood of the six realms, shrouded as it is in forests and lakes. It's said to breath the air there is to breath life itself. Princess Aanya is its future queen but she doesn't conform to what a queen should look like. So, she's sent to The Order, an ancient sect who believe in the transformative power of deprivation and devotion.
However, unknown to the princess, the reason for her banishment is more than what it seems. Powerful forces are conspiring to ensure she never sits on the throne.
When her travel party is attacked by bandits her misgivings about her light escort are proven true. If it weren't for the forest dwellers who came to her aid and the young commander, she's certain she would have been kidnapped or worse. The forest dwellers take her to their "King" and she assumes he will return her home just as soon as the young commander is recovered from his injuries. She assumes wrong. It seems a debt must be paid and the forest king has plans of his own.
She helps the healers care for the young commander and two of the forest warriors who were injured in her rescue. This is part of her debt payment and she wonders at this strange new world she finds herself in and what other "payment" the forest king has in mind. She also wonders at the dark presence she has sensed around her when she's on her own and the hooded and masked man she spotted in the forest watching her from behind the trees. His dark eyes feel like they see into the depths of her soul. The question is, who or what is he? Her saviour or her killer?
