Twelve girls. Twenty miles. One monster to carry them home.
Mark Baldwin woke up on the far side of the fever with his mind intact and his skin the color of a fish belly. The infected mobs that own the streets of Austin don't give him a second look. Mostly. The few normal people left alive shoot his kind on sight.
He's got a rifle, some hand grenade, and Marcy, the girl who came through the fever beside him with her body whole and most of her mind gone.
Then he spots one of his father's church buses stranded on the upper deck of I-35. He sets out to torch it just to watch it burn.
Only, inside are twelve girls from the Reverend's summer camp, alive after a week on a highway packed with the dead. Their counselor is Heather, the girl who turned high school into a new level of hell for Mark. She knows exactly what he is.
Redemption Hill is twenty miles away, across a city with few open roads, no running water, and a million infected who come running at the sound of an engine, a gunshot, or a human voice. Some of them are getting smarter. One of them is watching.
Mark is about to find out what it costs to be the monster who brings the children home. And whether anyone at the end of the road will thank him for it.
Slow Burn 12, Mark’s Ruin is the second of four books in the Slow Burn Series that tell Mark Baldwin's apocalyptic story.
Genre: Horror
