A novel by

Ninety percent of the federal laws and appropriations pass or fail by a handful of votes. So what if you got a small group of dedicated congressmen together, from both parties, at opposite ends of the political spectrum, and joined them in a secret society? They could, by their influence, committee decisions and floor votes, control the flow of America's money. And by spreading the fix among the society's members, leave no footprint behind.
But in order for such a society to exist, something would have to bind them in an iron grip so tight that no breath of it would ever escape from present and past members, something so alien to the American people that it left its members with no place else to go.
And into the possibility of such a society stumbles Alexander Judd, an editor of a small online magazine. But when he sets to investigate, he finds himself staring into the barrel of a gun. Locked in the hands of a naked woman. The trash-talking Elfy Cane. Who is wanted for murder. Cut the guy's heart out.
Then Elfy kidnaps him.
Now linked to her by association, Alex finds the police are after him.
What more could a slightly out-of-shape widower ask?
Well, falling in love with the lady certainly wasn't one of them.
Nor was having Elfy end up in the clutches of the shadowy Church of the Dark Light, a secret coven meeting in the bowels of that great building atop Jenkins Heights.
Better known today as... Capitol Hill.
