A Novella by

When her younger brother and only surviving relative, Colm, is killed in a work accident, young Irish woman Niamh Murphy is at a crossroads in her life. With all her family gone, should she return to her native Ireland or take a risk and leave New York for pastures new?
Deciding that her dear departed parents wouldn’t want her to give up on their dream, especially so close to Christmas, Niamh takes a great leap of faith and agrees to marry fellow Irishman Séamus Fitzpatrick, from Butte, Montana.

With the winter weather creeping in, the train journey is long and arduous, made all the more grueling by her discovery that this is one of the orphan trains, with the occupants heading for goodness knows what and where.

When the orphans eventually depart, Niamh finds that they have left a little girl behind. Niamh can’t leave her to fend for herself now, can she?

No, she must do her catholic duty and take the child under her wing. After all, what child should be by themselves at Christmas?

But what will Séamus say when she arrives with an unexpected infant in tow?

With Christmas only a week away, will he welcome the child with open arms or turn his back on them at this special time of year?
