When Holly Winthrop replies to a newspaper advert for a mail-order bride in Mistletoe, Oklahoma, the last thing she expects to be is part of the Ladies Guild’s devious plot to find their delightful but sad, one-eyed blacksmith, Owen Wheeler, a wife in time for Christmas.
Owen is in a bad way — not only did he lose his eye when an explosion wrecked his smithy, he also lost his darling wife, Joanna, in the disaster.
Now, with his diminished sight, his horseshoes are lopsided, causing no end of problems to the town’s horses.
Something needs to be done to help the man and Agnes Crabtree, the Guild’s ringleader, decides it would be her Christian duty to find another wife for Owen.
Her only stipulation to Holly is that she mustn’t tell Owen of their meddling ways.
Instead, Holly must organise the town’s Christmas pageant, and in doing so garner the help of Owen to mend the procession props.
