"I'll ascertain the point, when we arrive on the ground," said Olivier. "We shall soon be there," cried the general. "They are only about a hundred yards behind us," he added, looking back. "There is a nice retired spot on the right, very suitable for our purpose, with which I am acquainted," remarked Olivier. "We can go there, if you have no objection, general?" "By all means," was the reply. The general then ordered the coachman to drive to the spot indicated by M. Olivier. On reaching it the carriage stopped, and the occupants alighted. Presently the second carriage came up, and stopped about twenty yards from the first, and Frank and his second got out. While this was going on, M. Olivier begged Reginald to take off his sword. The young man complied, and received a foil in exchange. This done, Olivier and the general marched towards the others, and were met about half-way by Captain Blandford, bearing Frank's sword, which he delivered to the Frenchman--receiving a foil in return, and this he conveyed to his principal.
