This is the third Lord Rushlake novel. This time the handsome Earl is entertaining friends and family for Christmas at his country house. It isn't long before a neighbour begs one of his guests, the detective Adrian Bodley, to look into a suspicious death. This is followed by an almost fatal accident befalling another member of the same family, an event which prompts Lord Rushlake and his team to embark on another politely undertaken investigation.
We meet once again not only the Earl himself, but also the rest of his team of amateur sleuths: his sisters Titania and Jenny, Aunt Saffy, Lady Amberstone and Miss Patchett. Meanwhile, the budding romance between Mr Bodley and Miss Patchett continues to develop in fits and starts.
