Lord Rushlake finds himself helping the Scotland Yard detective, Adrian Bodley, with another case. This time it’s a murder. A man has been shot in his library. Was it self-inflicted or was it a disgruntled card-player who owes him money – or could it be a member of his own household? Nobody seems to have liked him.
This is the second in the Lord Rushlake series of mysteries in Victorian London. At the end of Lord Rushlake Wakes Up, he promised to contact his intrepid Aunt Mildred if another case came his way. He does and she travels to London from Yorkshire, bringing her young friend, Helena Patchett, with her.
Together, they investigate and eventually solve the crime, but not before they encounter a number of life-threatening perils.
