After losing their parents, Leah and her eight-year-old sister have been struggling to make ends meet. Leah spends all her time working at the factory, while Evangeline is left to raise herself. All Leah wants is to give her sister the safe, comfortable life she deserves – and when she sees an ad from a kind-hearted rancher looking to start a family, she decides to take Evangeline and move from Boston to the Colorado frontier.

Edgar has no time to find love. When his mother died, his father Amon shut down and stopped pulling his weight around the ranch. And his fear of seeing his son experience the same heartbreak he did has made it near impossible for Edgar to court anyone in the traditional sense. But he’s determined to find the kind of love his mother told him was possible, and he knows a mail-order bride might give him exactly what he’s always wanted.

When Leah arrives with her sister in town, Amon makes it clear that despite Edgar’s happiness, he doesn’t support the union at all. No matter how hard Leah tries to win him over, he seems intent on doing everything he can to send the sisters back to where they came from.
