This is a novel of love triumphing over parental repressiveness which concerns Tessa Riley the daughter of an Irish peat cutter. Her father has plans to marry her to the gamekeeper, but her heart lies elsewhere. The author is herself of Irish descent and has written several historical novels and a biography of Constance Wilde.
