A Story by

The amulet librarian Aurora Cunningham brings to Elspeth Barcley for appraisal buzzes with energy. Aurora's grandmother told her never to take the heirloom off, which heightens Aurora's anxiety. Is it valuable? What if she loses it? The amulet is an angel coin, something Elle has limited knowledge about. In addition to the amulet, Aurora's grandmother left her a coin collection that needs to be reappraised, so Elle brings in a specialist, Keir Scott.

Aurora, Elle and Keir travel through a snowstorm to Grandma's house in Door County, Wisconsin, where Keir assesses touch pieces and folded coins while relating stories of superstitions surrounding coins. Compelled to unfold one of the coins to better identify it, Keir releases a promise made centuries earlier and inadvertently breaks the enchantment protecting the house. Now, not only is the treasure in danger of being discovered, long-dead spirits swoop in to reclaim what they believe to be rightfully theirs.
