This is a memoir of a one novel's struggle toward publication, and the author who never a gave up on it. It is also a tutorial on story structure, craft and process, from a bestselling author/writing teacher who is considered an expert on those topics.

In 2004, author Larry Brooks wrote a novel called "Bait and Switch," which introduced its affable ex-underwear model hero, Wolfgang Schmitt. Far from a bestseller, the book nonetheless garnered significant critical acclaim, including a starred review from Publishers Weekly, who named it their July '04 lead Editors Choice (ahead of such luminaries as Jeffrey Deaver and Walter Mosely), and at year end to two of their "best of" lists: Best Novels of 2004 - Mass Market, and the only paperback among its "Best Undiscovered Novels" of 2004.

In 2006 Brooks wrote a sequel, originally titled "Schmitt Happens," bringing Wolfgang back for more reluctant, spicy undercover work for the FBI. But in a series of unforeseen events, the book wasn't published until 2013. "The Inner Life of a Novel - The Deconstruction of Deadly Faux" is a look inside the process of getting a book to market amidst the major upheaval of emerging digital publishing venues, as well as dramatic personal challenges and curveballs in the life of the author, including burning through three agents in the process of finally landing a home for the novel.

Critically-acclaimed in its own right, this ebook tears the pretty cover off the writing and publishing dream for a book that, given its predecessor's critical success, was primed for a breakout. Authors and readers will appreciate this honest an illuminating memoir, as well as receiving a detailed craft and process deconstruction of the novel itself, a book described by writing guru James Frey as "dazzling... sexy, complex, intelligent, with more plot twist than a plate of linguine swimming in olive oil."

Larry Brooks is the author of the #1 Amazon category bestseller "Story Engineering," and the bestselling craft book "Story Physics," both from Writers Digest Books. He is the USA Today bestselling author of six thrillers, including his latest, "The Seventh Thunder," released by Turner Publishing.
