Join ace crime reporter Colin Crampton and his feisty Australian girlfriend Shirley Goldsmith as they embark on a new adventure. That will please Colin's grizzled news editor, chain-smoking Frank Figgis, half man, half nicotine. Nothing about the robbery is what it seems. And it's not long before Colin realizes he's fighting on two fronts as a bigger story threatens to eclipse his own scoop. When one of Colin's informants gets murdered, the trouble deepens. Colin's charm and ability to talk his way out of trouble are tested to the limit. Even that might not be enough when he comes face-to-face with a killer.
As he chases down his story and earns that front-page headline, Colin encounters a cast of colorful characters, including a motorcycle rocker with bad teeth, a dyslexic tattooist, and a seller of novelty toilet roll holders.
